Samuel P. Golden Sr. 88, R.D. Gallitzin, passed away peacefully March 18, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born October 25, 1931 in Altoona, son of the late Marshall and Louise (Gurkin) Golden. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Patricia Butterbaugh on October 24, 1994, son in law, Richard Watt, and brothers Wendell, Sonny and Paul. Survived by children, Sam Jr. (Susan), Louann Watt, William (Ronda) and Charlie, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great- great  grandchildren, and brother, Walt (Phyllis). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was an Army Veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded 2 Bronze Stars. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Mills, Johnstown in 1982 after 33 years of service. Sam enjoyed fishing, boating, and Sunday suppers with his family. He was an anchor to his close-knit family. He was a member of the Amsbry United Methodist Church and caretaker of the Amsbry Cemetery for over 25 years and was instrumental in critical improvements and expansion of the cemetery. He was also a member of the Ashville VFW Post 4315 and the Cresson Sportsmen. Due to the Corona Virus a private family viewing will be held Friday followed by a funeral service, Rev. Stephen Moore, officiating. Committal will be held at his beloved Amsbry Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Ashville VFW and other Local Military Organizations.
