Samuel Fonzi  92, Millersville, passed away July 5, 2015 at the VA Medical Center Hospice Unit in Lebanon. Born November 9, 1922 in Ganister, son of the late Angelo and Carmella Fonzi.

Preceded in death by sisters: Edna, Irene, Helen, Christine, and Gloria, and brothers: Anthony and Romeo. Survived by loving wife of 58 years, the former Mary Louise Rieg, whom he married June 1, 1957 in Chest Springs . He will be deeply missed by sons: Samuel J. (Kathleen Conlin) and David L. (Janet Fitzgerald). Beloved grandchildren: Samuel A., Marina L., and Nicholas F. Fonzi.

Samuel graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1941. He proudly served in the US Army for 3 ½ years during WWll and saw combat in the European Theatre. He graduated from Edinboro State University in 1952 with a BS degree. He completed his MA degree from Penn State University. He pursued his Doctorate degree studies at the University of Texas and Penn State University. Samuel was employed by the Williamsburg School District in 1953 as a teacher, coach, and counselor. He was hired at Millersville State University in 1966 and retired as a professor emeritus in August, 1981. His pride for his students was shown by their accomplishments in whatever course in life they pursued. He always expressed gratitude for his family and friends. He enjoyed his retirement with his wife and family traveling extensively. He also enjoyed cutting firewood, hunting, fishing and golf. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. Monica Catholic Church, Chest Springs. Committal will be at St. Monica Cemetery with Military Rites in charge of Ashville VFW and other local Military Organizations. www.giddonsfhashvillecoalport.com
