William J. “Bill” Kovach Sr. 92, of Patton, died February 11, 2024, at Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Hastings. He was born January 12, 1932, in Spangler, son of the late John J. Sr. and Edna A. (Weakland) Kovach. Preceded in death by first wife, the former Lorraine Yonkoske on February 22, 2005, they were married 43 years, an infant brother, brother John, and sisters: Ruth Edwards, Betty McQueeney, Dorothy Morris, and Bernadette Horengic. He is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis J. Keith, whom he married May 17, 2008, in Carrolltown, children: William Jr. (Bonnie), Susan Boccio, Carolyn (Jerry) Earnest, twins: Brian (Yanice) and Chris (Clarissa), and Kyrsten Griffiths, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, siblings: Kay Morris, Connie (Curtis) Church, and Robert “Bobby” (Iris). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, cutting grass, gardening, and bowling. He had worked for Lanark Mine, Hastings, Greenwich Colliery, Northern Cambria, and he retired in 1999 from Bender Coal Mines. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, Chest Springs, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, Rev. Mariusz Gorazd, Celebrant. Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Patton. Friends will be received from 3 until 7 PM Thursday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613.
