Obituary

Scott C. Sutton, 36, formerly of Chest Springs, died December 13, 2018 at his home in Allison Park, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 19, 1982 in Altoona, son of Charles and Rose (Smychynsky) Sutton of Chest Springs. Preceded in death by paternal grandparents Bob and Peg Sutton; maternal grandmother Dorothy Smychynsky; and uncle Ray Sutton. Survived by his loving wife and teammate, Anne (Stoltz), whom he married February 14, 2014 in St. Augustine; the greatest joy of his life — his son, Alec; sisters Renee (Ryan) Aubele of Pittsburgh, and Michelle (Doug) Fogal of Altoona; maternal grandfather Paul Smychynsky of Bakerton; father- and mother-in-law Bob and Jane Stoltz of St. Augustine; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law; a nephew and two nieces; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and dear friends. Scott was a graduate of Penn Cambria High School, Class of 2000, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in 2004 from Lycoming College, where he also was a chartering member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity chapter. He enjoyed spending time with his family (especially his little buddy, Alec); hunting and fishing; and was an avid Pittsburgh Penguin and Oakland Raider fan. Scott worked for Phi Kappa Psi, Indianapolis, as a chapter consultant; in radio sales for Forever Broadcasting, Altoona, and for nearly the past decade, in territory sales, field sales, and coverage planning across the country for Grainger, Inc. This year, Scott co-authored a children’s book entitled “I Love You Like …” and dedicated it to his son. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Rev. David Rizzo and Rev. Joseph Fleming, celebrants. Committal, St. Monica Cemetery, Chest Springs. Friends will be received from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St. Ashville, PA 16613, where a vigil service will be held Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Scott’s memory to the Lazarex Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 741, Danville, CA 94526, to help other cancer patients and families with the costs of clinical trials, or to the Phi Kappa Psi Foundation, designated to the Scott Sutton Memorial Fund, 5395 Emerson Way, Indianapolis, IN 46226 or pkpfoundation.org/sutton. Scott’s smile was infectious; his gentleness apparent to all, and he will be missed every day. The family will always remember the many expressions of caring by legions of doctors, caregivers, family, colleagues, friends, and even strangers who accompanied Scott and Anne on this journey. www.gibbonsfhashvillecoalport.com
