Sam Strong

Sam "Pap Pap" Strong, 84, of Irvona, died May 19, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born August 11, 1938, in Berwinsdale, son of the late Samuel P. Strong and Vada M. Eagler Spangle. Preceded in death by infant daughter, Valerie Ann, grandson, Richie Strong, brothers: Paul and Thomas and sister, Pauline Baer. Survived by wife of 67 years, the former Joyce Fishel, whom he married September 13, 1956 in Coalport, daughter, Vicki (Mike) Cossick, sons: Richard (Mindy Peterson), and Craig (Elizabeth Ruch), 6 grandchildren: Kelli Rickard, Billy (Crystal) Rickard, Derrick (Megan) Strong, Whitney (Josh) Beltowski, Morgan Strong (Justin Kitko), and Anthony Strong, 13 great grandchildren, brother, Charles “Chike” (Ann) Strong, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, and fishing. He received his master’s degree from IUP in counseling and worked as a guidance counselor at Glendale High School for many years. Sam was a member of the Irvona Presbyterian Church. At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or services at this time.
