Robert "Bob" Ashurst Obituary

Robert “Bob” Ashurst, 77, Cresson, died April18, 2022 at UPMC Altoona. Born July 31, 1944 in Spangler, son of the late Vincent and Alverda (McIlwain) Ashurst. Preceded in death by brothers and sister; Hiram “Sonny”, Doris and husband Harold Funk, and Vincent and wife Barbara, sister in law, Jeanne Ashurst, and brothers in law; Ed Gaston, Don Yasick, and Tom Adams. Survived by wife of 52 years, the former Linda Burkhart, whom he married October 25, 1969 at St. Bonifice Catholic Church, daughter; Michelle (Ron) Grove and their children Jarrett and Ashton, of Gallitzin, son, Rob, and his children Connor, Cassidy, Avery, Reagan and Hadley, of Willoughby, OH, brothers and sisters; Donna Gaston of North Carolina, James of Ohio, Joan Warner of Northern Cambria, Nora Yasick of DuBois, Betty (Joe) Weakland of Florida, Anita Adams of Westover, Beverly (Nickolas) Chordas of Northern Cambria, Stephen of Northern Cambria, Debbie (Chris) Palmes of Florida, and Connie Ashurst of Cherry Tree. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era War. Bob was a loving husband, dad, and pap, and would do anything for his family. He enjoyed his morning Sheetz coffee, spending winters at the beach with Linda, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his two “buddies”, Jarrett and Ashton. He had worked at Barnes and Tucker Mine 24B, Nicktown, and retired from Penn Dot, Ebensburg. Former member of the Cresson Sportsmen. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Ann’s Council, Cresson and 4th degree member of the Prince Gallitzin Assembly, Northern Cambria, he was also a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson. At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing. A private Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the convenience of the family. Interment, Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Bob’s memory.
