Robert C. “Bob” Gillette Jr., 68, Shelocta, formerly of Ashville, died April 25, 2022 at home. Born February 18, 1954 in Lackawanna, NY, son of the late Robert Sr. and Betty (Turner) Gillette. Preceded in death by a sister, Mary Babiak. Survived by wife of 31 years, the former Debbie Herron, whom he married March 2, 1991 in Portage, children; Brenda Gillette (Mike Wojno), Robert lll “Rob” (Amy), Shaun (Angel) Chigas, and Terry Chigas, 9 grandchildren; Richie, Daniel (Tiffanie), Brandon, Rylie, Kylie, Breanne, Kyle, Arlo, and Caide, 8 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters; Walter Gillette, Patricia Yurcisin, Donna (Paul) Weber, William Walk, Jane Walk, Lloyd Walk, Chris (Tammy) Walk, and Harold Walk. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping, and riding his Harley. He served for 6 years in the US Marine Corps in Vietnam, and for 22 years in the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Hourglass Device and a Purple Heart. He later worked as an over the road truck driver. Life member of the Ashville VFW and was a Past Post Commander. Member of the DAV, and the Curry Run Church in Shelocta. At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing. A graveside memorial service will be held at Burnside Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Ashville VFW and other Local Military Organizations at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Bob’s memory.
