Obituary

Richard J. “Tillie” Eckenrode, 74, of Coalport, formerly of Cresson, died September 3, 2023, at UPMC Altoona. Born June 17, 1949, in Altoona, son of the late Irvin and Florence (Latterner) Eckenrode. Preceded in death by daughter, Carrie Ferre, brother, Duane “Eck”, and very special friend, Dale Havlin. Survived by wife of almost 36 years, the former Paulette Little, whom he married September 18, 1987 in Altoona, grandchildren: Hunter and Morgan Ferre, sisters: Barbara Kurash, Linda Scott, and Cindy Lidwell, and brother, Steve (Dorothy) Eckenrode, and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. Also survived by members of the Havlin family. Tillie was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed riding his Harley, camping, fishing, and hunting rattlesnakes. He had worked as a welder for the railroad in Altoona and Hollidaysburg. He was a life member of the Coalport VFW. At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or visitation. His request was to donate his body to science. A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
