Richard Burmeister, 86, of Coalport, died August 8, 2023, at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring. He was born April 8, 1937, in Kane, PA, son of the late Carl O. and Bessie M. (Laing) Burmeister. Preceded in death by brothers: James and John “Jack” Sr. He is survived by sister-in-law, Patty (Washell) Burmeister of Coalport, nephews: Jack Jr. (Michele Troxell) Burmeister of Glasgow, David (Sonja Zanzinger) Burmeister of Coopersburg, and Rob (Beth Matish) Burmeister of Fallentimber, great nieces and nephews: Miranda, Garrett, Aiden, twins, David and Sophia, Jackson, and Katelyn, and several cousins. Richard was the last member of his immediate family. He enjoyed playing the organ at the Coalport Presbyterian Church, figure skating and watching the Olympics. He was a personal friend of Olympian, Scott Hamilton. He had taught chemistry and physics at Glendale High School for 40 years and retired in 2002. But he was more than an academic teacher, he taught his students very well about “Life Lessons”. Richard was a member of Coalport Lions Club, Glendale Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance, Pennsylvania Teachers Association, and the Coalport Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received from 4 until 7 PM Sunday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1085 Main St., Coalport, Pa 16627, and from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service at 10:00 AM Monday at the Coalport Presbyterian Church.
