Mary (Reeni) Lureen Scanlan

March 12, 1947 – June 27, 2022

Reeni Scanlan, age 75 of Lilly passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2022. Reeni was born in Altoona, PA and is the daughter of late Paul and Valura (Blaylock) LaBar.

Reeni was a graduate of Cresson Joint high school. In her younger years she was a bit of an adventurer, enjoyed traveling about, riding motorcycles, and spending time with friends and family. She met the love of her life and married Donald J. Scanlan, Sr. in 1965. Together they had 6 children or as she liked to say, her “six-pack”. As you can imagine, many busy and fun days followed.

She was an active member of St. Aloysius Church in Cresson, PA and was involved in church and community events. Reeni enjoyed several hobbies. A few of her favorites to mention are square dancing, karaoke, sewing, ceramics, and crossword puzzles. She excelled in the kitchen baking, canning, and cooking. In fact, she baked and decorated amazing wedding cakes for others and is the former owner of the bakery “The Sweet Shop” in Cresson, PA.

Surviving are her husband, Don, and six children – Michelle (Miki) and her husband Arnold (Buddy), Deana and her husband Neil, Jennifer and her husband Cory, Susan and her husband Scott, Shelby and her husband Tony, and Don, Jr. (D.J.) and his partner Sarah.  She has 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Larry and William. Surviving siblings are Deborah, Cynthia, and Gerald.

Reeni was loved by many and will be dearly missed. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Thursday July 14, 2022 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Cresson, Rev. Leo Arnone, Celebrant. Committal, St. Aloysius Cemetery, followed by a dinner at St. Aloysius Church Hall.
