Mary J. (Farabaugh) Strittmatter Obituary

Mary J. (Farabaugh) Strittmatter, 94, Patton, died February 27, 2023 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born August 27, 1928 in Munster, daughter of the late Francis and Mary Viola (Wyland) Farabaugh. Raised by her grandparents, Frank and Annie (Schenk) Wyland of St. Augustine. Preceded in death by parents and grandparents, beloved husband John “Bud” Strittmatter, whom she married on September 10, 1949 in St. Augustine and spent 69 years with before his passing on September 9, 2018, brothers: Paul, William, and infant brother Robert Farabaugh, beloved sister, Anna Marie Karlheim, and grandson in law Scott Sutton. Survived and will be deeply missed by children: Jane A. (Robert) Stoltz, John P. (Rita Bender), Francis A. Patricia Bakale), Marie T. (Bill) Rhoades, Bernard J. (Tess Freidhof), David G. (Shirley Gailey), Susan M. (Ed) Freidhof, and Vicky E. (Kevin) Eckenrode. 30 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Eleanor Strittmatter and many nieces, nephews and Cousins. She worked alongside her husband on their dairy farm near Bradley Junction for many years before they moved back to her childhood community of St. Augustine. She was proud to be a member of and made many dear friends through the Banner Grange, the Cambria County Pomona Grange and the State and National Grange, the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, Penn State Cooperative Extension, the Allied Milk Producers Association, and the St. Augustine Altar Rosary Society. Bud and Mary received the 2016 Pro-Life Award, the Bishop Carroll Cornerstone Award, and the 2009 National Grange Family of the Year Award. Mary enjoyed attending sporting events of her grandchildren, traveling with Bud, music, reading, and hosting gatherings for her family. Sincere thanks to Dr. Russell Miller, the Hospice nurses, and all of her wonderful caregivers. Mary was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, Rev. Jerzy Auguscik OFM Celebrant. Committal St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3 until 8 PM Wednesday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA where a Vigil Service will be held Wednesday afternoon. www.gibbonsfhashvillecoalport.com
