Mary “Rose” Conrad, 90, of Loretto, died October 9, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 13, 1932, in Loretto, daughter of the late Albin and Edith (Baker) Schenk. Preceded in death by infant children Mary Teresa and James, grandson, Ethan Sumner, sons-in-law: Leroy Prosser, Raymond Hollen and Larry Sumner, siblings: Robert, Rita Wolfe, Aileen Ford, Irvin, Leona Venesky, Joe, Denver, Albin, Alice and Ella. Survived by husband of 73 years, John “Jack” Conrad, whom she married April 22, 1950 in Chest Springs, children: Darlene Prosser, John W. “Jack” (Janet Ivory), Nancy Hollen, Bill (Betty Klemann), Nora (Tom) Hilyer, Joan Sumner, and Don (Mary Pennabaker), 18 grandchildren, 27, great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Last member of her immediate family. Faith and the family she built with her love Jack were the center of Rose’s world. She dedicated her life to building a welcoming place for not only her family, but her community. She had poise and grace that transcended generations. She found solace in nature evident by her extensive flower gardens, where she could often be found saying her devotions or humming her favorite hymn. She loved to laugh and was fond of the pranks and jokes she shared with her extended family-especially her sister Aileen. She believed that everyone should continue to learn and grow in all things-faith, education, and love. She was steadfast in her beliefs and her patience and kindness was known to all who came in contact with her. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Grange, a 4H Leader, John Lipple Post 4315 Ladies Auxiliary, Chest Springs Senior Citizens, Chest Springs Sportsmen Association, and she donated to numerous organizations. She was also a member of St. Monica’s Altar Rosary and St. Monica Church, Chest Springs where friends will be received from 9 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 A M Saturday, Rev. Robert Reese, Celebrant. Committal, Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Carmelite Monastery of St. Therese of Lisieux, Loretto, PA. in Rose’s memory.
