Margaret C. (Dunegan) Farabaugh Obituary

Margaret C. Farabaugh, of R.D. Ashville, passed away Sunday, May 29, at the home of her daughter, Jeanne. She was born in St. Augustine, the youngest daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Baker) Dunegan. On September 14, 1957 in St. Augustine, she married Regis E. Farabaugh, who survives. They were excited to host the very first wedding reception in the new St. Augustine Church Hall, and they, along with their wedding party, arrived to the celebration by way of a tractor, in keeping with their families' farming roots. Also surviving are seven children: Carol Ann (Michael McGuire), Cresson, Sally (Danny Roadcap), Mt. Sidney, VA, Patrick (Kathleen Lazere), Loretto, Jeanne (Michael Mayo), Salem, VA, Michael (Tammie Moses), Charlottesville, VA, Regis B. , Sarver, and Cathy (Corrine Makarewich), Grottoes, VA; six grandchildren: Aaron McGuire (Natalie Bukowski), Jessica, Chrissie (Luke Zayicek), and Luke Farabaugh, Margaret Annie Farabaugh, and Charlie Farabaugh Makarewich; also two great-grandchildren :Sasha and Ozzy Zayicek. Margaret is also survived by her brother, Clair (Patricia Holtz) and her sister-in-law, Rose Marie Dunegan, and many extended family members and lifelong friends. Margaret was preceded in death by a son, Myron; brothers, Paul (Rose Marie McConnell), and Regis, and sisters, Helen (George Krug), Verna (Joseph Kelly), and Betty (Leonard Glass). Margaret was a graduate of Patton High School, and prior to her marriage worked for the Butterick Pattern Company in Altoona. She was a member of St. Monica Roman Catholic Church in Chest Springs for well over 55 years, where she provided support as needed - cooking, baking, and serving for the annual church picnics and weekly card parties, and was a regular volunteer in cleaning the church. She was a faithful daily Mass attendee for as long as her health allowed. She was also a past member of the Altoona Curve Booster Club. Margaret devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, and thoroughly enjoyed their frequent visits, usually producing a freshly baked “new recipe” to try at the kitchen table. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, and her basement shelves were filled with jars of various homemade jams and spreads, as well as her canned vegetables and sauces, which then were sent off with “the kids” when they visited. Margaret was an enthusiastic traveler, and visited much of the country while accompanying her children. She also enjoyed occasional trips to the region’s casinos and bus trips with the Chest Springs Senior Citizens’ group. Friends will be received from 9:00 AM until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM Friday, July 22, 2022 at St. Monica Catholic Church, Chest Springs, Rev. Jerzy Auguscik OFM, Celebrant. Committal, St. Monica Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613. www.gibbonsfhashvillecoalport.com
