John M. Simmers, 88, of Utahville, died September 20, 2023, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. He was born August 22, 1935, in Van Ormer, son of the late Alfred and Ida (Mayes) Simmers Sr. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy Samuels on April 7, 2022, brothers: Fred and Alfred “Jr”, and sisters: Ellen Simmers, Flora Matthews, Anna Simmers and Dorothy Helsel. Survived by sons, Michael (Beth Lynn) of Altoona and Brian (Ashley Lantzy) of Utahville, 5 grandchildren: Brandon (Baylee), Nathaniel, Hannah, Conrad, and Samuel. He was the last member of his immediate family. John was an Army Veteran. He enjoyed his grandchildren, working on cars and music. John retired from North American Communications, Duncansville. Friends will be received from 2:00 PM until time of funeral service at 4:00 PM Saturday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1085 Main St., Coalport, PA 16627, Rev. Jonathan Hendren officiating. Committal, Utahville Cemetery. Military Rites in charge of Coalport VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the James E.
