John I. Shepler Jr., 77, Dysart, died August 18, 2021 at Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Hastings. Born January 18, 1944 in Colver, son of the late John Sr. and Lillian (Hale) Shepler. Preceded in death by daughter, Heather, brother, Abe, and sister, Shirley Cummings. Survived by wife of 49 years, the former Donna Lewis, whom he married October 2, 1971 in Buckhorn, son Aaron (Jennifer Lego) of Dysart, granddaughters; Alexis and Kiara, sister, Ella Jean (Bob) McMillen of R.D. Dysart and numerous nieces and nephews. John was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era War. He loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, hunting and fishing. He worked for Mine 33, Ebensburg and retired as a correction officer from SCI Cresson in 2009. He was a member of the Buckhorn Bible Church. Friends will be received from 5 until 8 PM Friday and from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613, Rev. Carl Wolfe, officiating. Interment, Richland Cemetery, R.D. Dysart. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Make a Wish Foundation in John’s memory.
