Jerome J. "Nix" Carl Obituary

Jerome “Nix” Carl, 87, R.D. Dysart, died November 17, 2020 at UPMC Altoona. Born July 23, 1933 in Dysart, son of the late James and Ellen (Sherdon) Carl. Preceded in death by daughter, Sharon Becker on March 24, 2000, brothers; Clarence, James, Martin and Paul, and sisters; Helen Fleck, Grace Kranz, and Rose Carl. Survived by wife of 64 years, the former Dorothy Funicelli, whom he married February 4, 1956 in Frugality, children; Cindy Farrell, Robert (Joann Storm), Pam (Jeffrey) Anna, and Janet (David) Grove, son in law, Ronald (Rhoda) Becker, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Nix enjoyed hunting and riding his John Deere Gator with his dog running down the road alongside. He was lifelong farmer and belonged to the Cambria County Conservation Association, where he was a past board member and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau where he was a past president. Nix was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9622, Frugality, the Holy Name Society, where he was a past officer and St. Augustine Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Saturday, Rev. Jerzy Auguscik, celebrant. Committal, St. Augustine Cemetery. There will be a private family viewing at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613.
