Jack D. Laing, 64, of Coalport, died September 6, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Jack was born October 12, 1958, in Altoona, son of the late James W. Jr. and Kathleen W. (Welker) Laing. Preceded in death by brothers, Jerry R., and Jeffrey L. “Otis”. Survived by brother James W. lll (Barbara O’Shell) of Coalport, nephews, James W. “Jaime” IV (Kelsey Youngkin) Laing, and Jeffrey L. Laing Jr. nieces, Jenice A. Laing, and Jennifer M. Laing, step-niece Joni Merritt, great nieces and great nephew: Ivy Kay Laing, Tate W. Laing, Ella M. Laing, and Cecelia G. Carrington. He is also survived by numerous cousins. Jack was a volunteer in fire service for over 50 years, and numerous community service organizations. He enjoyed camping and bird watching. Jack worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Auditor General’s Department, Bureau of Fire Relief for over 24 years, and retired in 2019. He was formerly a substitute teacher for Glendale and Moshannon Valley School Districts, and formerly worked for Clearfield County Government, Deputy Treasurer, Field Assessor in the Assessment Office, and Tax Claim Bureau. The many organizations that Jack belonged to: Glendale Vol. Fire Department, Past Fire Chief and Current Treasurer (Member over 50 years), Coalport Lions Club (held numerous offices (member over 45 years), Coalport Lodge # 574 F & A M, (former Secretary (1983 – 1996) and Past Master (1997), and affiliated Masonic Bodies, Coalport Lodge # 350 L.O.O.M., Fred R. Korman Lodge # 55 I.O.O.F., Clearfield Elks Lodge # 540 B.P.O.E., BCIMA Board Member (Charter Member since 1990) (Prior Secretary/Treasurer; Current Chairman), Coalport Area Christmas Treat Fund (Current Secretary/Treasurer), G.I.D.A., Coalport Area Museum, PA State Firemen’s Association, Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Western PA Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Cambria County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, PA Forest Fire Warden (over 35 years), Clearfield County Ambulance Association (former President and Treasurer), Clearfield County EMA Volunteer Director for numerous years, LEPC Committee, Coalport Borough EMA Director, former council member, and past assistant secretary, Irvona Rod & Gun Club, and Coalport First United Presbyterian Church where a funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 AM, Rev. Robert Bruinooge officiating. Committal will be at Lyleville Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 until 9 PM Saturday, where numerous community service organizations will do Memorial Services, and from 1 until 4 PM Sunday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1085 Main St., Coalport, PA 16627.
