Hugh Caskey Obituary

Hugh Caskey, 88, of Irvona, Pennsylvania, died on February 23, 2023, the result of a heart attack. Hugh is remembered for his kindness, and known for his tremendous love for his family and friends. He was always helping strangers. Hugh was born on January 3, 1935 in Blain City, PA, to Elizabeth Bertha (Markel) and Leroy Doris Caskey. He graduated from BCI High School in the Spring of 1952, and obtained a job at the Coalport A&P grocery store immediately following graduation. A year later he worked for Swank Refractories, later TYK, in Irvona as a clerk. Hugh retired 44 years later as a top executive for TYK Refractories in 1997. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1957-1963. Hugh is survived by his wife Dorothy (Ninosky) of 61 years, his sister, Sara Jean (Caskey) & Daniel-deceased Zuniga, his sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Ninosky) & Larry-deceased Cussick & Catherine (Ninosky) & Randy-deceased Hutton, his brothers-in-law, John & Nancy-deceased, Nancy Ninosky and Joseph & Mary Ninosky; his four children, Stephanie Caskey & Mike-deceased Saracco, Beth (Caskey) & John Lloyd, Richard Caskey, and David & Karen (Onufer) Caskey; his grandchildren, Christopher Saracco, Christyn Lloyd, Samanth (Saracco) & Nick Long, Nikki (Lloyd) & Ethan Maneval, Brant Caskey Sarabeth Lloyd, Gavin Caskey, Chase Caskey, Elaine Caskey, and Caroline Caskey; great-grandchildren, Lillian Saracco, and Michael Long (born just 2 days before Hugh’s death). Also surviving are Aunts, Mary (Ninosky) & Thomas-deceased Hilliard, and Jean Shomo & Theodore-deceased Lucas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hugh loved Christ. He once wrote, “Today is Easter ~ the happiest, the most beautiful, the most meaningful, and the most important day in the life of all Christians. It is the day we are reminded that God provided the way for all people to receive eternal life~ to have their sins forgiven, finally and forever!” He played the piano in his home, and he would often stop as he walked by the piano, lean over, play just a few notes, then leave singing a hymn. He was a very active member of his Church, the Coalport Presbyterian Church, as an Elder, Trustee, Clerk, teacher, piano/organ player, and choir member. Hugh’s grandchildren thought he could fix anything, and they relied on their “Pappy” to do so. He loved to travel to visit his children and grandchildren. No one has greater pride in their children than Hugh. The grand & great-grandchildren were an added blessing. His family was extremely important to him, and we rejoice in God’s blessings of our family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved the outdoors, and spent hours boating on the Glendale lake. He loved wildlife and enjoyed birdwatching. He liked having whitetails, chickens, ducks, and geese roaming the yard. He rode a Harley motorcycle as a young adult and again a Suzuki in retirement. Hugh was taken to the Coalport Presbyterian Church as an infant, baptized there on March 28, 1937, married there on September 2, 1961, and will have his Memorial Service there on March 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM. In honoring Hugh’s wishes, there will be no viewing. A dinner will follow immediately after the Church Service at the St. Michael’s Orthodox Church in Irvona. Interment will be at a later date in the St. Michael’s Orthodox Church Cemetery. For anyone wishing to make a donation to Hugh’s memory, the family suggests donations be made to the Coalport Presbyterian Church, the Irvona St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. www.gibbonsfhashvillecoalport.com
