George Shumac, 68, of Ashville, died July 8, 2023 at home with his loving wife by his side. Born October 5, 1954, in Altoona, son of the late Robert and Irene (Stepisianos) Shumac. Preceded in death by brothers: Robert and Kevin. Survived by his loving wife, the former Bernice Gibbons, whom he married October 5, 2004, in Altoona, Children: Eric (Cristy) Shumac, Kelly (Matt) Lieb, and Mike Shumac, 5 grandchildren: Alexander, twins: Ian and Seth Lieb, Damian and Theo Diehl, Brother of: Robin (Jim) Ganey, Jeff (Julie) Shumac, and Jamie (Chandra) Shumac. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. George was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, and four wheeling. Member of the Cresson American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Altoona, and St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday, Rev. Albert Ledoux, Celebrant. Committal, St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville. Friends will be received from 4 until 8 PM Monday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, Pa 16613, where a Vigil Service will be held Monday. Military Rites are in charge of Cresson American Legion and other Local Military Organizations.
