Eugene “Gene” Francis Sherry Sr., 79, of R.D. Ebensburg, passed away peacefully April 14, 2023. Born October 18, 1943, in Spangler, son of the late Leo and Mary (Storm) Sherry. Preceded in death by brother Edwin, an infant sister, sister-in-law Karen, and brothers-in-law, Valley and Pat. Survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Judy Kirsch, whom he married November 29, 1969, at St. Nicholas Church, Nicktown, children: Lynn (Jason Michaels), Eugene Jr., Susan (Paul) Sherbine, Carrie (Lenny) Balashaitis, and Jeff, grandsons: Anthony and Eric Balashaitis and granddaughters: Eva and Kaitlyn Michaels, brother, Allen Joe, sister-in-law: Lucille Sherry and numerous nieces and nephews. Gene loved his family pets, especially Snickers, Peanuts, and Butch, and spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, side by side riding and going for long walks. He looked forward to the annual Potter County fishing trip and enjoyed ATV trail riding, especially when accompanied by his family and friends. He also enjoyed a daily “barley pop”. Gene loved helping his boys on the family farm. Although he wasn’t an engineer, he could build and repair just about anything. Nothing was ever broken that he couldn’t fix. Gene retired as a member of the Carpenters Union of Western Pennsylvania and was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era War. Friends will be received from 4 until 8 PM Monday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, Pa 16613, where a Vigil Service will be held Monday. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore, PA. Interment, Sherbine Cemetery, Summerhill, PA. Military Rites will be conducted by Local Military Organizations.
