Edward “Ed” Kowalski, 82, Portage, died February 8, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born June 2, 1939 in Gallitzin, son of the late John Sr. and Sophie (Yonkoski) Kowalski. Preceded in death by these brothers and sisters; John Jr., Joseph, Sophie Zolna, Ann Janosik, Franky, Eleanor Steback, Leo Sr., and Helen Gearhart. Survived by wife of 54 years, the former Gloria Watt, whom he married May 6, 1967 in Ashville, sons; Michael (Beth), Thomas, and Matthew (Lindsay); 3 grandchildren, Aimee, Elijah, and Emma, sister, Mary Graca, sister in law, Joan Kowalski, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era War. He enjoyed spending time with his family, duck pin and 10 pin bowling, archery hunting, and driving his 1966 Mustang. Ed retired as a maintenance supervisor at the Ebensburg Center in 2000. He was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Duncansville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Monday at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Loretto, Rev. Msgr. Robert Saly, celebrant. Committal, St. Michael Cemetery, Loretto. Friends will be received from 2 until 5 PM Sunday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613.
