Donald E. Garman, 90, of Ashville, died October 13, 2023, at UPMC Altoona. Born October 3, 1933, in Tyrone, son of the late Joseph and Nellie (DeArmit) Garman. Preceded in death by wife, the former Shirley Eyer on August 9, 2021, preceded in death by infant great grandson Eugene Joseph Erlinger, and siblings: Jackie Cassidy and Thomas “Tucker”. Survived by children: Donna (James) Erlinger, Dwayne “Butch” (Rochele Finkelstine), and Diane (Randy) Fontanella, 7 grandchildren: James (Tara) Erlinger, Michael (Rebekah) Erlinger, Christina (Michael) Racz, Dwayne Garman Jr. Dustien Garman, Amanda Fontanella and Gina Fontanella, 5 great grandchildren: Harlie, Joseph, Amelia, Thomas, and Braylee. Last member of his immediate family. Also survived by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Don was a State Champion in 1952 in Javelin and held the record for many years. He also served as the football captain for Bellwood Antis School District. He had worked for PPG, Altoona for many years. Former member of Ashville Volunteer Fire Company. Member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville. A private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Tuesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, Rev. Alex Ledoux, Celebrant. Committal St. Thomas Cemetery. Military Rites in charge of Ashville VFW and other Local Military Organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Ashville Volunteer Fire Company in Don’s Memory.
