Daniel C. Farabaugh, 70, of Loretto, passed away August 27, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born December 27, 1953, in Altoona, son of the late Melvin and Agnes (Nealen) Farabaugh. Preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Jack McMullen, Don McNulty, Dan O’Leary, and Mike Lieb, and nephew, Tony Farabaugh. Survived by wife of 50 years, Catherine whom he married October 18, 1974, in Loretto, children: Laurie (Eric) Dasher, Richard (Nicole), Eric (Marisa Palko), Jennifer Decker, Brian, and Jason (Roseann), 16 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, siblings: Mary McMullen, Ed (Joan), Herb (Lois), Thelma McNulty, Cathy O’Leary, and Carol Lieb. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dan was a 1971 graduate of Penn Cambria High School. He really enjoyed wrestling with his grandchildren and getting them all riled up. That would make his day. He also loved playing cards, farming, planting potatoes, and planting flowers and vegetables with his sisters. He would then either sale them or give away most of his harvest. The ladies working at Smithmyer’s Superette, ladies around the neighborhood, and even a couple of weddings were privileged to display his gladiolus. Dan loved assisting anyone who called for help or farming advice, several times over the years he would even offer help to stranded motorists. Who doesn’t remember all the hay wagon rides he would give in the summertime?  In the wintertime he would bring his international tractor and snowblower all around the neighborhood to clear lanes and driveways. Dan wore many hats throughout his entire lifetime. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. He was also a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a coal miner, where he was also a firefighter when mine 32 in Ebensburg caught on fire in February of 1977. He was affectionately known as “Farmer Dan”, a gardener, grape wine maker, carpenter, roofer, construction worker, electrician, plumber, brick layer, block layer, welder, he milked cows, and he raised honeybees. He worked for ValeWood Farms when they needed mechanical, carpentry, or welding work done. He was even a school bus driver at times. After a bad winter storm, he convinced his dad to sell the bus. Friends will be received from 2 until 8 PM Friday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM Saturday at the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto, Very Rev. John D. Byrnes, Celebrant.
