Charles Edward "Chuck" Watt Sr. Obituary

Charles Edward “Chuck” Watt Sr., 87, of Ashville, passed away July 6, 2024, at home peacefully in his sleep, where he lived with his son and wife, Ben and Lynn Watt. Born December 13, 1936, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Edward “Ted” and Gertrude (Seymour) Watt. Preceded in death by wife of nearly 66 years, the former Marian Eichenlaub on September 19, 2023, grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Tiffany, and Jason Edwards, daughter-in-law, Jeannine (Stevens) Watt. Survived by children: Charles “Chuck” Jr., Kathleen “Kitty” (Joe) Edwards, Kevin (Lisa Sollenberger), Tammy (Steve) Caracciolo, LuAnn (Dave) Ulicne, Tim (Betty Yeater) , Michelle (Michael) Zenone, and Ben (Lynn Behe), 24 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren, his siblings, Geoge (Carol Capouillez), Theresa (Len) Rieg,  and Leo (Karen Stoltz). Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law. Chuck and Marian wed on November 30, 1957, and went on to have 8 children. He told us recently, “She was the love of my Life”. He believed in his faith in God and the love of his family. When Marian had her stroke nearly 13 years ago, he became her primary caregiver. He never complained and cheerfully did her bidding. They were such a loving couple and raised their children with the same strong morals. They were totally devoted to each other. Chuck was a coal miner by trade and worked many hours and swing shifts in the mines, allowing very little family time. When the mines closed, he found a job with W.E. Campbell Builders crew and continued to provide for the family. Eventually, the grandchildren came along, and he sure made up for the time he missed with his children! He became “PAP” to all and loved every minute of it. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren compete in events, and his pride would show when they won their competitions. Chuck loved to fish and hunt, and he enjoyed his winters in Florida. He was an avid “Pirates” fan and hated to miss a game. Chuck also enjoyed going to auctions with his brother George, though he rarely bid. He also loved to “scrap” with his brother Leo. Some of his favorite pastimes were farming, running heavy equipment, and playing cards. He gave a helping hand to anyone who asked and expected nothing in return. He was just an all around “nice guy”. There are those who will miss him, and those who think of him often, but none as much as the children who loved him and called him Dad. Former member of Chest Springs Sportsmen, and member of the UMWA and St. Monica Catholic Church, Chest Springs, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Rev.
