Charles “Chuck” Koegler, 76, of Sugar Run Road, Duncansville, died July 28, 2024, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. He was born August 25, 1947, in R.D. Gallitzin, son of the late Herman Sr. and Madeline (Hughes) Koegler. Preceded in death by wife the former Rosemarie Kotch on April 19, 2007, children: Charles Jr. and Melisa Ann, and these brothers and sisters: Helen Haley, Betty Krug, Mary Jo McElheny-Hawthorne, Herman “Pete” Jr., John, James, Ginger Fortney, and Midge Wyland. Survived by sons: Shawn (Melena Schwartz), and Brent (Jamie Sherry), 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters: Patrick (Carol), Madeline “Sis” (Dave) Kelly, Joan Gabrielson, Genevieve “Jenny” Clark, Stephen “Mike”, and Gloria (Mike) Tusko, sisters-in-law: Shirley Koegler and Margie Koegler, and numerous nieces and nephews. Chuck served in the US Army as a Captain in the Special Forces, and was awarded 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, making homemade wine, hunting and trout fishing. He had worked as a Veterans Representative for Career Link, Altoona for over 20 years and received several awards. Chuck was a Life Member of the Ashville VFW and the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the Loretto American Legion, and former member of the Basilica of St. Michael’s Loretto, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, Very Rev. John D. Byrnes, Celebrant. Friends will be received from 5 until 8 PM Thursday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613.
