Bernard E. “Bernie” Ivory 68, Ashville, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on April 25, 2017 at UPMC Altoona after a courageous battle with cancer. Bernie was the loving husband and friend of Sarah Ann (Fragale) whom he married October 1, 1982 in Pottstown, PA. Born February 15, 1949 in Altoona, son of Alvin J. and Marjory (Storme) Ivory. He worked as a journeyman sheet metal worker at Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 19 Philadelphia, PA for 38 years and retired in 2006.

He was a patriot and proud veteran of the United States Navy (The Fighting SeaBees) during the Vietnam War. He was very active with local veteran organizations and participated in Honor Guard services. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and family. He was an active member of the Loretto American Legion Post # 748, Ashville VFW Post 4315, Mountain Top Sportsmen Club, Coupon and the Gallitzin Moose. Bernie was preceded in death by his father Alvin J. Ivory and infant granddaughter Tylee Eryn Sanders. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother Marjory (Storme) Ivory of Ashville, son Adam Ivory and wife Rena (Halbach) of Dillsburg, daughter Polly Ann McGlynn and husband Bryan of Dillsburg, daughter Lisa Sanders and husband Kevin of Carlisle, Nina Ivory McNaney and husband Daniel of Philadelphia and 7 grandchildren plus one to be born in early May. Also survived by his brother Paul Ivory and wife Trudy (Bloom) of Ashville, brother Gary Ivory and wife Irma (Banuelos) of El Paso, TX, twin brother George Ivory and wife Helen (Kuntzman) of Ashville, sister Marycarole Brannigan and husband William “Luke” of Ashville and sister Celine Ivory-Myers of Carlisle. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM until time of Memorial Service at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613, Rev. Robert Reese officiating. Committal, St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville. Military Rites in charge of Ashville VFW, Loretto American Legion, and other local Military Organizations. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to Loretto American Legion, Post # 748 (Fund to Maintain the Veterans Memorial) in Bernie’s memory. www.gibbonsfhashvillecoalport.com

I tried doing this this afternoon but I think I did it wrong. I am sorry to learn of Bernie's death, I have been praying for him since Aunt Margie told me he was sick. I will get in touch with Russ's sister and let them know.
