Richard Young Obituary

Richard Carl Young passed away peacefully at his home in Millersville, MD on March 20, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania on August 2, 1942, to Robert N. Young and Mary (Miller) Young. He is survived by his wife Carol Janet (Sulzner) Young, and her two daughters, Karen Hadlock and Tracy Shannon and their respective spouses and children. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife Carol Mae (Hoover) Young and is survived by their two sons and their families; Richard “Scott” Young (Michelle) and grandsons Noah, Luke, and Scotty and Stephen Young (Susan) and grandchildren Taylor, Nathan, Shannon, and Jordan. His surviving siblings include brother Robert (Ramona) Young, and sisters Peggy Young, Jeanne (Young) Bergamaschi, and Karen (Young) Richards (Kevin). Richard is also survived by multiple beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Upon graduation from Cresson Joint High School in Cresson, PA, Richard served in the US Navy from July 1960 to August 1963 as a Sonarman on the destroyers USS Damato DDE-871 and USS William V. Pratt DLG-13. Richard was an avid outdoorsman to include hunting, fishing, and camping mostly in Central PA and Western, MD. He was a proud Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), VFW, and the American Legion. He was also an active and faithful member of the Severn Run Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Millersville, MD. He was instrumental in coordinating and supervising the construction of the church’s Pavilion now used by many. He will be missed by all who loved him until we meet again. There will be a visitation viewing service Tuesday evening and a church service with reception at 2:00 PM on Wednesday. For those family and friends who are unable to travel to MD, there will also be a graveside burial service at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Loretto, PA at 2:00 PM Thursday, followed by Military Graveside Rites by Loretto American Legions and other Local Military Organizations.
