Robert P. “Barney” Funicelli, 86, Dean, died December 10, 2020 at UPMC Altoona, Born February 4, 1934 in Dean, son of the late Fortunato “Snat” and Margaret (Reghetti) Funicelli. Preceded in death by these brothers and sisters; James, Eileen Dietrich, John, Dominic, Ray, and Marcella Brown. Survived by wife of 57 years, the former Rita Sutton, who m he married April 20, 1963 in Ashville, children; Robert A. (Leslie) of Peoria, AZ, Randy (Cindy) of Warwick, RI, and Karen (Mark) Smithmyer of Dean. 3 grandchildren; Kathleen, Zachary and Anthony. Sisters; Dorothy Carl, Mary Alice (Richard) McNulty, and Betty Ann Sutton. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was an Army Veteran. Barney enjoyed gardening, golfing, hunting, and fishing and he was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He worked as a union masonry laborer and retired in 1995. At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing. He belonged to the laborers’ union, Ashville VFW, Clearfield Creek Watershed Association, Dysart Sportsmen, and St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 19, 2020, Rev. Robert Reese, Celebrant. Committal, St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville. Military Rights in charge of Ashville VFW and other Local Military Organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, in Barney’s memory.
