Joseph Passanita 90, Ashville, died January 6, 2019 at UPMC Altoona. Born August 28, 1928 in Dysart, son of the late Antonio and Antonia (Perfumi) Passanita. Preceded in death by infant son Joseph, granddaughter, Lorie Krug, brothers, Sam, Carmel “Lefty” and James “Nimmers, and sister, Annie Zupon Gibbons. Survived by wife of 66 years, the former Laverne Miller whom he married November 8, 1952 in Ashville, children, Diane, Karen (Gene) Hoover and Rick (Annie), 4 grandchildren, Ron, Jessica (Greg), Nicole (Steve), and Justin (Katie), 6 great grandchildren, Hannah, Andrew, Mia, Ayden, McKenzie and Brielle, and one to be born in January. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Last member of his immediate family. Joe was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler, Penguin, Pirate and Penn State fan. He retired in 1984 from Berwin Railway in Hollidaysburg. Joe served on Ashville Boro Council for 27 years and was a past president. Member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, Rev. Robert Reese and Rev. Joseph Fleming, concelebrants. Committal, St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Thursday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, PA 16613, where a Vigil Service will be held Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Ashville Volunteer Fire Company in Joe’s memory. www.gibbonsfhashvillecoalport.com
